Humboldt Club Serbia was founded on 16 October 1990 in Belgrade as an academic association bringing together the fellows of the German based Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung, Bonn) in the territory of the Republic of Serbia. The support for fellows’ associations is one of the programs of the Humboldt Foundation which, apart from the fundamental fellowship program, also include granting awards and guest professorships, donations for research equipment and books, organization of scientific meetings, participation of former fellows in scientific conferences in Germany, visits of German scientists to countries where former fellows now work, and encouraging institutional partnership between Germany and Serbia.

Humboldt Club Serbia is a nonpartisan and a nonprofit association whose aims include spreading of scientific knowledge, encouraging of scientific work, care for scientists, particularly young scientists, improvement of cooperation between scientists in the country, improvement of cooperation with scientists and scientific institutions abroad, particularly in Germany. The most significant method used to achieve these goals is the organization of lectures, debates and scientific meetings.
