Humboldt Kolleg 2026

The Humboldt Kolleg “Enhancing Scientific Cooperation and Integration between the Western Balkans and the European Union” will bring together researchers from a wide range of disciplines – from natural and life sciences to humanities and social sciences – united by a shared belief in the power of knowledge to connect people.

The Kolleg will gather Humboldtians, distinguished scientists, junior researchers, and PhD students. Participants from Germany and across Southeast Europe are expected to actively engage with the Kolleg’s themes. Particular attention will be given to fostering the involvement of young researchers, as well as Humboldt alumni from Serbia and the wider region, ensuring a vibrant exchange of knowledge and ideas across generations and borders.

In times marked by growing fragmentation and hyper-individualism, the Kolleg offers space for genuine dialogue and rediscovery of what science does best: building bridges across borders, generations and fields. It will gather scientists who are curious not only about their own questions, but also about how their work fits into the larger picture of our common European future.

Through open discussions, keynote talks and informal exchanges, participants will share experiences, explore new collaborations and seek creative ways to strengthen cooperation between the Western Balkans and the European Union. Special attention will be given to supporting young researchers and creating an atmosphere where ideas can flow freely, guided by the Humboldtian values of curiosity, openness and mutual respect.

The Kolleg’s ultimate goal is simple yet essential: to remind us that science is not only about discovery, but also about connection and that only together can we imagine and build a more integrated and humane scientific community.

The Humboldt Kolleg is organized by the Humboldt Club Serbia.
